THE ENVIRONMENT
The operating context
The operating context
A global industrial manufacturer operated a distributed network of production facilities with interconnected IT and operational technology environments. The estate included industrial control systems, production equipment, engineering workstations, enterprise infrastructure and networking technologies from multiple vendors. Responsibility for these environments was distributed across central IT, local operational teams and specialist technology owners. Establishing reliable asset visibility required collecting and consolidating information from diverse systems while respecting the availability and security requirements of live production environments.

THE CHALLENGE
What needed to change
What needed to change
The organisation needed a more consolidated understanding of its connected IT and OT assets, including their characteristics, relationships and vulnerability exposure. Its distributed manufacturing environment presented several challenges. Different facilities had varying network architectures, infrastructure capabilities and technical prerequisites. Integration availability and access restrictions also differed between technologies and sites. Deployment activities had to be coordinated across multiple internal teams, technology vendors and production facilities, with operational continuity remaining a central requirement. The challenge was not simply to deploy a platform, but to establish a functioning asset visibility capability across a heterogeneous industrial estate with a sustainable foundation for further development.

SCYR’S APPROACH
From assessment to execution
From assessment to execution
Scyr was engaged as a specialist implementation partner to lead the architecture and delivery of the initial platform deployment. Working through its OT cybersecurity specialist, Scyr reviewed the technical environment, defined the deployment architecture and coordinated the implementation of physical and virtual data collection infrastructure. The engagement combined solution design, technical implementation, integration management and programme-level delivery coordination. Scyr worked closely with the customer's IT and OT stakeholders to address infrastructure dependencies, coordinate access requirements and resolve technical constraints. Where existing integration capabilities or deployment methods were insufficient, alternative approaches and vendor-supported resolutions were evaluated. Delivery followed a phased approach, allowing implementation and validation to progress according to site readiness and available infrastructure.

DELIVERY
What we delivered
What we delivered
Scyr's work covered the technical foundations required to establish enterprise-wide asset visibility across IT and OT environments. • Architecture and deployment: Defining the solution architecture, specifying collection infrastructure and deploying physical OT and virtual IT collection components across production facilities. • Enterprise integrations: Configuring and validating connections to existing network, identity, endpoint management, security and virtualisation systems to support asset discovery and enrichment. • Site and asset configuration: Establishing site structures, logical boundaries and asset management configurations to support consistent identification and assignment of devices. • Technical troubleshooting: Investigating integration limitations, coordinating vendor escalations and implementing supported solutions or workarounds for environment-specific constraints. • Operational foundations: Establishing user access, technical configurations, recurring asset-data reviews and documented follow-up activities to support continued platform operation. • Delivery coordination: Managing technical workstreams, dependencies and outstanding actions across central IT, local OT teams and external technology providers. Initial planning and configuration activities also supported the future introduction of more advanced vulnerability prioritisation capabilities.

RESULTS
The outcome
The outcome
The engagement established an operational asset intelligence platform, with the target architecture defined and collection infrastructure deployed across the majority of the planned production facilities. Core integrations across IT and OT environments were implemented, providing the foundation for consolidated asset inventory and visibility into vulnerability exposure. Industrial data collection extended visibility towards production-level equipment and connected operational systems. Technical integration challenges were addressed through coordinated troubleshooting and vendor engagement, while a recurring review process was established to support asset data quality, integration monitoring and operational follow-up. The deployment remained in progress at the latest documented checkpoint, with selected facilities and integrations still requiring completion. Advanced vulnerability prioritisation capabilities were also progressing through their initial setup activities. The result is a functioning asset visibility capability across a distributed industrial environment, supported by a defined architecture, established operational processes and a structured path for expanding coverage and functionality.
